Trailblazing Australian Track Cyclist Retires After Remarkable Career

Champion Has Won Medals at Four Consecutive Olympic Games

Anna Meares, one of the most decorated track cyclists in Olympic history, has announced her retirement from the sport.

Meares, 35, won two gold medals, one silver, and three bronze medals at four consecutive Olympic Games from 2004 to 2016. She is the first athlete to win a medal in the same event at four consecutive Games.

Meares's most successful Olympic performance came in 2012, when she won gold in the 500m time trial and team sprint and bronze in the keirin.

Meares has also been a dominant force in world championships, winning 11 gold medals, four silver medals, and two bronze medals.

In a statement, Meares said she is "filled with gratitude" for her career and is looking forward to "the next chapter in my journey."
